Frequently Asked Questions

TAO III / Program Card

Q.Even if you connect TAO III and ESC, "Connect Cabel" or "Connect ESC" is displayed and ESC is not recognized.
A.Your TAO III situation may be in ESC mode.
If the XARVIS (or XX, Futaba MC970CR) LED is blue (ESC mode), try the following:
Press and hold the right button for 4 seconds, LED to turn in red (program card mode). Then reconnect them, TAO III can communicate with XARVIS (or XX, Futaba MC970CR).

ESC / Electric Speed Contoroller

Q.Why does all the LEDs flash and the motor stops while driving?
A.If the sensor signal from the motor does not reach the ESC normally, or if the sensor signal is unstable for some reason, all the LEDs will blink and the motor will stop (sensor error signal). Check the connection status of the sensor cord, as it may be due to poor contact of the sensor cord or defective connector insertion. If the symptom persists even after replacing the sensor cord, it is possible that there is a problem with the sensor mechanism of the motor body. Please contact the motor manufacturer for inspection and repair.
In addition, if the sensor cord and motor cord are bundled in the chassis layout or if both cords are in contact with each other or are extremely close to each other the sensor cord will be affected by the radiation noise generated by the motor cord when the motor rotates. In such a situation, a sensor error signal may be output, and even if the sensor error does not occur, malfunction phenomena such as "breathing during acceleration" and "knocking" may occur. Please layout the sensor wire and motor wire as far apart as possible.

Q. What is motor timing?
A.With ESC for brushless motors, by controlling the timing of generating current at each terminal of the motor, it is possible to produce the same effect as when the motor advance angle is changed.
ACUVANCE describes this as the "motor timing" function. Think of the sum of this value and the advance angle of the motor body as the actual advance angle.
Example: If the motor timing is set to 30 ° while the motor body has an advance angle of 20 °, the feeling will be the same as when the motor has an advance angle of 50 °.

Q. What happens to the actual advance angle when the boost turbo is activated?
A. When the boost is activated, the boost advance is added to the advance of the motor body, and when the turbo is activated, the turbo advance is added to this. The advance angle when the turbo is maximized at full throttle is the advance angle of the motor body + full boost advance angle + full turbo advance angle.
When using the boost / turbo function, please set it while paying sufficient attention to the heat generation of the ESC and motor up to about 158°F/70°C.

Q. The Schottky diode was damaged due to the battery reverse connection. After taht, can run it, but is it okay to use it as it is?
A.If the battery is connected in reverse with the switch off, the damaged part will be limited to the Schottky diode in most cases. However, it is difficult to judge whether the board is actually damaged or not just by looking at it.
In any case, Schottky diode improves the protection performance of the board, so it is not recommended to use it as it is.
Please be careful not to reverse the battery.

Motor

Q. In the case of a motor with adjustable angle, what happens to the advance angle when it is rotated in the reverse direction?
A. The scale engraved on the body of the motor that advance angle can be adjusted is for forward rotation. When using the reverse rotation function of ESC, read this scale in reverse.
When the advance scale is adjusted to the zero position, the maximum advance is achieved during reverse rotation.
When the advance scale is adjusted to the maximum position, it becomes zero advance during reverse rotation.

Q. Is it a problem to overheat the motor terminals with solder for a long time?
A. Use a soldering iron with the widest possible tip area and work in the shortest possible time. If heated continuously for 10 seconds or longer, heat conduction may cause problems in the internal sensor circuit.

Q. Why does the motor and ESC generate heat when unplug only one motor cord and operate the throttle?
A. If you operate the throttle with only one motor cord removed, the motor will be forced to flow while the motor is stopped, resulting in a short circuit. In that case, a large current may flow between the motor, ESC, and battery, and then each device may be damaged.
In particular, if the initial setting of the radio position is not completed, the same state may occur without operating the throttle.
Be sure to remove all three motor cords when making initial settings or changing settings for ESC.

Q. When I soldered the terminals of the motor, the rotation of the motor became extremely slow. Why?
A. It seems that solder has entered between the terminals and is short-circuited.
Due to the operating principle of the motor, if the terminals are short-circuited, the brake will be applied. If you try to drive in this state, the speed controller will be damaged, so be sure to remove the solder that shorts the terminals before driving.

Total System

Q. Why does the connector have poor contact?
A. A typical connector is a two-piece structure with a metal core covered with a mesh of metal. If this is used for a long time, the mesh part may be deformed or dust may adhere to the gaps, causing poor contact between the metal cores.
Especially in ESC with boost function, a large current flows, so if you use this type of connector to connect to the motor, poor contact of the connector will lead to damage to the motor and ESC in addition to power down.
If you feel any power down symptoms, replace the male connector. In addition, we recommend using a male connector other than a mesh structure.

Q. Why Sometimes reverse driving becomes impossible?
A. It may be affected by the condition of the transmitter's potentiometer (the part that determines the position of the throttle and steering).
Potentiometers can physically deteriorate due to aging and long-term use. This makes it easier for the neutral position to shift, causing symptoms such as "neutral brakes become unstable" and "cannot enter back driving".
In particular, if the symptoms temporarily recover by initializing the nutral position and then reappear after running for a while, it can be judged that the potentiometer is likely to have deteriorated or worn out.
If you experience any of these symptoms, we recommend that you ask the transmitter manufacturer to inspect it.

Q. Do I have to keep the attached noise killer capacitor and Schottky diode?
A. Do not remove both parts.
If the noise killer capacitor is not installed, motor noise may cause the ESC and receiver to malfunction, which interferes with normal driving. Schottky diodes are installed to protect the ESC from the voltage (back electromotive force) generated by the rotating motor.
However, when installing Chevalier series capacitors, there is no problem even if the noise killer capacitors are removed.

Q. The feeling of speed and power has decreased over time. Is this because the ESC has deteriorated?
A. It is unlikely that the decrease in speed and power is due to deterioration of the ESC, and in most cases it is due to deterioration of the motor and battery, and dirt and deformation of the connector part of the cord.
If you feel a decrease in power even after changing the battery or motor, it is possible that there is a poor contact at the connector part of the cable, or that the solder resistance has increased due to repeated soldering. The energization performance of connectors deteriorates as the surface becomes dirty and the contact force between males and females decreases, so if you feel a decrease in speed or power even though you are using different battery motors, first of all suspect that the connector or soldering part is not energized.
In addition, if the ESC has been used for several years, it is unlikely that it will deteriorate to the extent that the driving performance, such as speed and power, can be experienced.
If you replace the motor or battery with a new one and you feel a clear decrease in speed and power even though there are no problems with the connector or soldering, It is not because the ESC has deteriorated but because of the internal base of the ESC. It may be damaged.

Capacitor

Q. What is the effect of installing the Chevalier series?
A. It has the effect of minimizing fluctuations in the battery voltage while driving. As a result, it becomes possible to secure sufficient power (battery voltage) at points where power down (battery voltage drops) in the past, such as when accelerating.

Since the battery has an internal resistance, when a current flows, the voltage drops due to its own internal resistance. This voltage drop increases as the internal resistance of the battery increases, and increases in proportion to the value of the current flowing through the battery. Due to this property, when driving RC carwhere the current value required by the motor changes frequently, it is difficult to maintain a constant output voltage with the battery alone and a large voltage drop occurs at the moment when a large current is required during acceleration.
To make up for this, the capacitor is an part that always tries to keep a constant output voltage. At the moment when the battery voltage drops during acceleration, etc., the capacitor releases the current stored in it and tries to keep the output voltage as constant as possible. The important point at this time is the discharge capacity of the capacitor. The higher the discharge capacity of the capacitor, the smaller the drop in output voltage. Equipped with the Chevalier series, which can release a large current at once, it will be possible to minimize changes in the output voltage of the battery and drive with a sense of acceleration and stability.

Q. Is it effective to use with capacitors made by other manufactures?
A. When used in combination with a large-capacity capacitor made by another manufature, the performance of both may be reduced. In that case, please use either one alone.
When the noise killer capacitor that coms with XARIVIS, and Chevalier series are used together and when only the noise killer capacitor is removed, the effect of the Chevalier series is exhibited at the same level, so the installation / removal of the genuine noise killer capacitor when installing the Chevalier series Please go as you like.

Q. Accuvance silicone cables are expensive, but what are the benefits?
A. By making the core wire ultra-high density, the electrical resistance is reduced as much as possible, so it is extremely excellent in terms of electrical conduction efficiency.
We pursue "high efficiency" in all the parts that make up ESC. Of course, silicon cables are no exception, and over 1000 ultra-fine core wires are packed in a cross section with a diameter of several millimeters to ensure a high density. Increasing the core wire density means reducing wasted space in the same cable cross-sectional area. "Resistance value" reduced to the limit and extremely high "current density" by increasing the density. The "high-density cable" whose effect is theoretically supported by electrophysics has the following merits.

1. Improvement of battery efficiency.
2. A feeling of torque and power can be obtained because the battery power is transmitted to the motor more directly without waste.
3. Since the cable itself generates low heat, wasteful heat generation inside the chassis can be suppressed.
4. Minimize increased cable resistance due to heat generation. (Electric resistance of metal increases due to heat generation).
* In addition, since the cable itself is softened by the adoption of ultra-fine core wire, there is also the advantage that the cable is easy to leyout.

Q. What happens if keep using the same battery repeatedly?
A. Batteries deteriorate with long-term use. A deteriorated battery has a high internal resistance, so when the motor consumes a large amount of current, the instantaneous battery voltage drop (voltage change) becomes larger than usual, and in some cases the ESC may be turned off.
In addition, the same thing can happen with new batteries due to individual differences. When using the boost or turbo function, the current consumption of the motor will also increase, so use a battery in good condition as much as possible.
